Full course description
Safety Resources
Course Format
Instructor-led
Description
Groups conducting research or academic activities off-campus may be required to develop an Off-Campus Activity Safety Plan (OCASP). The development of an OCASP will assist those conducting fieldwork on behalf of the university to incorporate appropriate preventative and emergency response measures to reduce risks to themselves, colleagues, and the university. It will also demonstrate due diligence and provide you with an understanding of the legal requirements for protecting the environment as well as for compliance with occupational health and safety regulations. Typically, the OCASP process is required for all moderate or high-risk research activities and locations.
Once an OCASP is created for specific off-campus research/course activities, then Safety Resources can assist fieldwork supervisors (P.I.s) or field course instructors in conducting a group orientation session for all participants, so everyone is aware of the safety plan and has an opportunity to ask questions.
