Description
The online Biosafety course is designed for those individuals who have not taken biosafety training at the University of Saskatchewan, as well as for those individuals whose biosafety training has expired after 3 years.
This course is mandatory for all employees, including faculty, staff, and students, who works under a Level 2, level 3, and or Departmental biosafety permit at the U of S. With the ever-changing hazards associated with research activities, it is important to ensure that all personnel are appropriately trained when working with biological substances, both infectious and non-infectious, in order to prevent exposure.
The biosafety training is valid for 3 years.
Objectives:
This course provides training on Biosafety fundamentals including:
- Policies and procedures;
- Risk factors of biohazardous agents;
- Exposure routes;
- Selection and use of personal protective equipment;
- Biosafety cabinets;
- Containment facilities;
- Laboratory-acquired infections and prevention,
- Importation of human, animal, and/or plant pathogens;
- Responding to biological spills; and the
- Safe use, storage and disposal of biological materials.
