Description
High-performance computing (HPC) clusters allow researchers to perform work that would be impossible with ordinary computers. In this three-hour, instructor-led, hands-on workshop, you will learn the basics of supercomputers and how to use them: finding and loading scientific software, performing calculations in batch jobs or interactive sessions, storing and managing data, and using resources efficiently and responsibly. You will work on the Plato HPC cluster at the University of Saskatchewan, and you will be shown where to find documentation and technical support for your work on Plato.
Objectives
- Understand what is HPC and why a researcher could need it
- Be able to perform basic work on a supercomputer
- Know where to find documentation and support for the Plato cluster at USask
